To be Seen or Not to be Seen, that is my Question.

I've wanted to throw these questions out to the blog universe for awhile now especially since I've been back from BEA.

Do you have a personal picture of yourself on your blog?

If not, why?

Do you like knowing what the blogger looks like? Does it make you feel closer to the blogger?

Here are my thoughts. For the longest time, i had a generic picture up and then i had a picture of my son. My blog has always been about books with a little bit of me thrown in there. I've included a few more pictures of myself and my son over the years but have kept it on the down low.
When I finally did post a picture of myself, I remember getting comments that we really positive and excited saying that it was nice to put a face to a name.

I would REALLY like to know what some of my favorite bloggers look like. That's just me! Now that I have met several at BEA the past two years, it is really nice to bring that community even closer.

What do you all think?

Happy Reading and as always, thanks for stopping by!

I don't have a personal picture of myself simply because I am very shy and uncomfortable about it. However, I love it when bloggers post their pictures or write about their personal lives, especially in case of my favorite bloggers.

Personally for me I love being able to put a face to the blogger even if we havne't met in real life.

I don't do pictures of myself. Probably because I'm super private. But I don't mind when others do. In fact, I quite like it. Great question!

This is a really good question. I personally have my blog button as my pic but through Networked Blogs, my face can be seen. I just hate having my picture taken, otherwise I would show it more. In saying that, I do like to see what people look like. Through blogging, we make virtual friends but it seems so generic until we can put a face to the name.

I like knowing what a blogger looks like - and I was happy to see your smiling face and flaming red hair finally appear!

Hey Michelle: Since I got to meet you in person at BEA, I know what you look like, but if I didn't I would want to see a pic. I'm kinda nosy that way. Since fair is fair, I do have a picture of myself on mine, although my adorable dog is taking up most of it, since he is way cuter! I think most people do like a face to go with the name. The picture I have in my head of someone, usually never matches what they really look like!!!

I agree with you that personal photos are nice. I would post mine but I'm a teacher and I don't really want any pupils or parents linking me to my blog, even though I don't discuss school. You are right though :)

When I first started my blog I had a photo up as part of my profile and then took it down thinking that it didn't matter, no one wanted to see me. I recently read that people like to be able to identify the blogger they are reading and sharing their ideas with so I added a new one. Admittedly it is not on my front page and you have to look for it, but it is there. :)

I love seeing bloggers but it doesn't add or take away for me.

I would be happy to meet so many in person, like you Michelle but having my picture online just doesn't do it for me or match my professional life.

With this said I think of it often, to do or not to do.

It never crossed my mind not to put a picture up. I prefer pictures. When I think of a person's blog their picture/face comes to mind. When I think of a person's blog who doesn't have a picture, her blog layout comes to mind. Then when people change their blog layout, I'm thrown a little bit.

I'm not sure if that makes any sense but I prefer to know who is behind the blog.

I have a picture of myself and my cat Canto on my blog. I can understand why some people don't want their picture on their blog with all the identity thefts, but I feel ok if they don't have their picture.

I do love to put a face to the blogger but do understand that some folks prefer not to.

I debated long and hard over which photo to use for my profile. I have to confess it is not the most recent. It is about 3 yrs old!

I have mine on there but I've considered lately taking them down. I'm really worried about a client of mine finding my blog. My last name isn't attached to it so they probably wouldn't unless they just happened to be reading the blog already which is why I've left it so far.

I too was reluctant to use a real picture of me but the response to it has been wonderful. I purposefully got a 'bookish' picture as well. Since it's not a secret that I'm a book blogger I'm not worried about being 'outed' and it does create a lovely sense of connection with folks -- makes what I read a little more real, if that makes sense! I see more of the person behind the blog entry.

It doesn't matter to me either way. One of these days I may put a pic of me on the blog, but I'm not in a hurry to do it. I'm not sure why though.

As far as Aidan goes, when he was younger I didn't want to put pics of him on there. Now I'm under strict orders not to do it. So I have to listen to him on that one.

I love when people have pictures of themselves on their blogs; it really does make you feel like you know the person that much more. Of course, you may notice that my picture is not on my home page because there are so very few pictures of me that I want seen!

I love when bloggers include a mug shot... errr .. photo of themselves on their blog. ;) Even if it isn't their profile picture. I think it makes the blogging experience more personal and more fun because you feel like you're making new friends with similar interests as you!

First of all, thank you for reading my blog and saying such nice things. I don't sugar coat motherhood (except with brownies and peanut m&m's :))because it isn't easy! Motherhood is a challenge for me. Maybe for some it isn't as hard, but it is tough for me. I love my kids to pieces, but sometimes I want to leave them on the front steps of someone else's house for a while! :)
And second, I like having a picture of the blogger as well. It makes their stories, struggles and triumphs more real for the reader, I think!

Obvioulsy I am pro pictures. :) I love pictures and I do so often on my blog because many friends and family read it for one - but also I like feeling like I really know who I am reading.

For BEA it is priceless. I knew people form their blogs. Those who did not post pics walked up to me and said Hi, they knew me from my pics... but I did not know them and had to place blog to person.

Love the pics!!!
